Step into the warm story of Bantianyao (半天妖) — where a signature grilled fish infused with green Sichuan peppercorns does more than awaken the palate; it rekindles cherished memories shared with family and friends. With over 1,400 stores across Asia, Bantianyao has become a symbol of lingering gatherings — small reunions that begin modestly yet never seem to end. Inspired by the image of the "Half-Day Spirit (半天妖)" from Chinese mythology, the brand brings the warmth of everyday life, where each spicy yet refreshing bite tells a story of connection, laughter, and life’s most precious ordinary moments.

2015 — The First Flame at the Foot of Mount Tai
Everything began with a small shop in Shandong, nestled at the foot of the mystical Mount Tai — where the founders poured all their passion into creating the very first grilled fish infused with green Sichuan peppercorns. The fresh, vibrant heat of the peppercorns blended with sweet, tender fish sourced from the finest local ingredients quickly touched the hearts of diners. However, to nurture a greater dream, the headquarters was relocated to Shanghai — China’s most dynamic urban center. This was not merely the beginning of a brand, but a promise to deliver simple, heartfelt meals where families gather, friends share stories, and every distance melts away in the fragrant warmth of the grill. Establishing the headquarters in Shanghai allowed the brand to access higher-quality ingredients, ensure live fresh fish and authentic green peppercorns, and train professional chefs to preserve the true original flavor across every store.
2020 — Bantianyao Expands Across China
From its headquarters in Shanghai, Bantianyao expanded rapidly, establishing a presence in hundreds of major shopping centers from Beijing to Guangzhou — even amid the challenges of the pandemic. The secret lay in an unwavering commitment to quality: fresh fish carefully selected every day, authentic green Sichuan peppercorns delivering a distinctive fresh heat, and genuine Wuchang rice, fragrant and fluffy, freely refilled. Each dining table became a place where memories were made, supported by attentive and thoughtful service — staff greeting guests with warm smiles, helping them choose the perfect flavor, and caring for every detail. The brand quickly became a favorite choice for everyday gatherings, where laughter echoes and bonds grow stronger through bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and heartfelt hospitality.
2022 — Bringing Bantianyao to the World
Driven by a mission to spread the values of togetherness, Bantianyao stepped beyond China and into Asia, opening stores in South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and many other countries. By thoughtfully blending local tastes while preserving its core identity, each new store became an emotional bridge — inviting diners to sit down, share conversations, and let the warmth of the bubbling fish pot turn strangers into friends.
2025 — Touching Down in Saigon
In June 2025, BanTianYao officially set its first footprint in Vietnam with a flagship store on the B floor of Van Hanh Mall. Within a warm and cozy space of nearly 200m², we chose to tell our story through the language of light, color, and service quality, delivering the most satisfying experience to our guests.
Connecting the shared belief that meals are moments when family and friends reunite — deeply rooted in both Vietnamese and Chinese cultures — and preserving the spirit of togetherness, BanTianYao aims to become a gathering place for simple yet memorable encounters, where delicious meals bring people closer.
After just a few months, the affection from Saigon diners returned to us through heartfelt compliments on flavors and wonderful experiences with BanTianYao, marking a highly positive beginning in our journey to bring exceptional taste and service values to the Vietnamese market.
